The City of Charlotte’s Office of Sustainability and Resilience (OSR) has completed its annual spring update to both the Sustainable Energy Action Plan Plus (SEAP+) dashboard and the Power Down the Crown dashboard. These updates provide residents, businesses and community partners with the latest information on Charlotte’s sustainability progress and help track advancement toward the city’s climate and energy goals.
The SEAP+ dashboard now includes updated information on alternative fuel and electric municipal fleet vehicles, municipal solar projects and operational solar capacity, and communitywide solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and installed capacity for both residential and commercial properties. The dashboard’s electric vehicle (EV) charging maps have also been refreshed to reflect both publicly and privately funded charging infrastructure throughout the community. Communitywide EV charging port data is updated automatically as the underlying data source is regularly refreshed, ensuring users have access to the most current information available.
The Power Down the Crown dashboard also received significant updates this spring. The dashboard now includes calendar year 2025 energy performance and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data for all participating buildings. Historical energy and emissions data from 2024 has been added as well, allowing users to begin tracking trends over time for each participating property. The program continues to grow, welcoming four new participants — JELD-WEN, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), Mecklenburg County ABC Board and Marriott — who have contributed their building energy data to the platform. City participation has also expanded with the addition of 48 municipal buildings. Overall, the dashboard has grown by an additional 16.2 million square feet of building space and now tracks 74,600 metric tons of CO₂e more than in the previous update.
Both dashboards are designed to support long-term trend analysis and help measure Charlotte’s progress toward achieving its SEAP+ goals. Annual data updates occur each spring, while new metrics, datasets and features are evaluated and incorporated during fall updates. Interactive maps help visualize the distribution of sustainability measures across the city, allowing users to identify gaps, opportunities and areas for future investment. Graphs and charts provide insight into growth toward program goals and progress on policy implementation and sustainability actions.
The Power Down the Crown dashboard specifically highlights the collective impact of Charlotte’s business community in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving energy performance. By showcasing participating organizations and their contributions, the dashboard demonstrates how public and private sector partnerships are helping advance Charlotte’s climate goals. Together, the SEAP+ and Power Down the Crown dashboards provide an important tool for tracking, communicating and celebrating sustainability progress across the community. As new data sources become available and additional metrics are vetted for inclusion, both dashboards will continue to evolve and provide even greater insight into Charlotte’s sustainability journey.
